Major Responsibilities of Wuhuepb
as a local environment protection administration department of Wuhu Municipal Government, according to the National Environmental Protection Laws and Regulations, Wuhu Environmental Protection Bureau (WHEPB) follows the principle of taking natural ecological conservation and environmental pollution prevention as the main tasks; sticking to people-oriented principles; safeguarding the environmental rights and interests of the public, and promoting the sustainable development of society, economy and environment. Its major responsibilities are as follows:
    1. Formulating local environmental policies, regulations, and administrative rules and regulations; helping the Government in formulating major local policies on economy, technology, resource distribution and industry related to environment protection.
    2. Formulating local environmental protection programs; organizing the formulation and supervision of pollution prevention plans and ecological conservation plans.
    3. Carrying on national environmental standards and technological rules and regulations on pollution prevention of air, water, soil, noise, solid wastes, toxic chemicals and vehicle emission; and on ecological reservation of forest,?? waters, farmland and natural reservation zones.
    4. Supervising the managements of pollutants prevention and pollution sources control. Supervising and inspecting the situation of environmental protection and ecological reservation; treating the environmental proposals received from local People’s Congress and CCPPCC; accepting public letter-writing and visits on environment protection.
    5. Supervising local natural environmental protection; Supervising and coordinating the protection and construction of natural protection zone, biological diversity, wild animals and plants; guiding local eco-agriculture construction; approving EIA Reports of the development and construction activities.
    6. Taking charge of emission declaration and registration, emission permission, emission tax, EIA, “Three Simultaneities” and scheduled control.
    7. Responsible for organizing and coordinating fixed-quantity appraisal of comprehensive environmental control in urban area.
